Kishkinda Moolika Bonsai Garden, one of the largest Bonsai collection in India is home to over 450 miniature trees in a garden setting.
Founded by Sri Ganapathi Schchidananda Swamiji 30 years ago in Mysore, the Bonsai Garden is a must visit place in Mysore.
Surprisingly, not many people are aware of this Bonsai garden. Not even 1/10th of the crowd that goes to Mysore Zoo or Brindavan Garden comes to this place. We think the reason could be lack of awareness.
As a symbol of recognising the origin of Bonsai (a chinese art of growing miniature trees in pots), the place has a Chinese styled gazebo with water surrounding it.
There are many mini gardens in this place —
- Rashi Vana – plants here represent signs in zodiac system
- Nakshatra Vana – plants represent the 27 stars of Indian astrology
- Raga Vana – plants represent the sounds of Indian music
- Saptarishi Vana – plants represent the seven great Indian sages
- Panchayatana Vana
The best place to visit this garden is in the evening, as you can leisurely spend time reading about each of the Bonsai trees.
The coconuts grown here are used for puja in the temple.

Apart from the Bonsai Garden, there are two other places to see within the same enclosure:
- Sri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Ashrama
- Shukavana Birds – a rehabilitation centre for wounded birds
Must Know Details:
- Entry fees: Rs 10
- Visiting hours: 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, and 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. They are very particular about timing. We saw a couple trying to enter Bonsai Garden by 5.35, the incharge didn’t allow them inside.
