Sterling Elk Hill Resort is certainly one of the top places to stay in Ooty. Its location on an elevated land adds to its advantage for a good view.
When you are travelling from Bangalore to Ooty, we recommend you to drive slowly (and carefully) during the Bandipur forest stretch. We’ve been in this road at least ten times, and we’ve seen many birds and wild animals (including a tiger) on road.
Below picture was taken in Bandipur road stretch when we were driving towards Ooty. The people you see are forest guards.
The trees before Bandipur and after Bandipur (near Mudumalai junction) bear very colorful flowers.
Sterling Elk Hill Resort can be reached with the help of Google Maps. Be careful about the exact turn / road you take – because most of the roads around this place are narrow and it is difficult to take a U-turn.
During our trip, in the night, our phone batteries died, and hence we resorted to our memory of roads that leads to Sterling Elk Hill. Unfortunately, we lost the right road, and we ended up driving on too narrow roads (only one vehicle can pass at a time) and wasted about 20 minutes before reaching the resort.
Below picture shows the reception. Parking in this resort is challenging due to its limited space. The parking gets full by evening and vehicles have to be parked in a dedicated area adjacent to the hotel.
Room blocks.
Talkies Tip Rooms in the same block as reception has the best view of valley. Ask for top floors.
We took a room in the reception block. Though this room opens directly to the valley on the other side, you will only get 50% view due to the shape of the window. If the room had a full frame end to end window, then the view would have been stunning.
Campfire area. Also, this is the view from in-door activities room.
Talkies Tip By evening, if the weather is manageable for you, then you can get great view from this open place.
In-door activities room, along with a small kids play area. It has got plenty of options right from carrom board, chess board, table tennis, and plenty of board games. If you are travelling with kids, this room will engage them well.
This is a bright-sunlight view from reception.
The same view taken with a cloudy sky.
Open area near parking zone, with good view of the valley.
The restaurant was clean, food quality was decent. But, there are too less number of waiters to serve when all tables are occupied. We could see few customers complaining about the late service.
Sterling Elk Hill has got a reception with a great view. One can just sit here for hours and stare at the valley outside.
The resort has an outdoor play area too.
